Crystal Rose Speros was born and raised in San Diego, CA to parents who were teens during the 60's and 70's. She started singing with her mom in Filipino karaoke bars and in the church. When she reached junior high school, she met bassist Glen Fisher. Through Fisher's First Friday Music Club, Crystal Rose was able to take guitar and voice lessons, as well as perform in various venues around San Diego, CA. She grew up learning the ropes of performing in "Revolt-age", a rock and roll/soul cover band which consisted of her friends and FFMC students. Revolt-age performed frequently in well-known bars and venues such as Humphrey's Backstage Lounge and main stage, the San Diego Botanical Gardens, the San Diego Yacht Club as well as performing at birthdays, weddings, and parties.
Crystal Rose continued to study with Glen Fisher and vocalist Kevyn Lettauuntil she left for New York University. In New York City, she started performing at venues such as the Bitter End and Prohibition NYC, while beginning to hone in on her songwriting. It was during her year and a half at NYU that she really uncovered her desire to write and perform original music. She eventually transferred to The New School for Jazz and Contemporary Music where she has had and will have the privilege of studying with wonderful instructors such as Jamie Leonhart, Nick Hakim, La Tanya Hall, and Scott Kettner. Crystal Rose has performed as a solo act, a jazz trio, and in her original music group. Some examples of venues she has performed in include the Sidewalk Cafe, Rockwood Music Hall, the Flat Iron Room, Rue B, Naive Williamsburg, and the Well.
She was able to be a supporting and featured vocalist on Kevyn Lettau's most recent tour in Manila, Philippines during September 2018. It was exciting for Crystal Rose to sing in her mother's birth country, develop her background and duo singing skills, as well as perform for large audiences. Crystal Rose currently has private students in voice, songwriting, and guitar and is finishing her final year at The New School. She is so thankful to have the opportunity to play and share music!!
